The Japan Coast Guard has kicked off a new system to ensure female employees do not have to give up their jobs to bear and raise children or undergo fertility treatment, it has been learned.

The new system, introduced in March as a written policy, says female members can defer job transfers for up to three years under such circumstances, the coast guard said.

The new system was set up after a number of female officers left the service because they were no able to maintain a happy balance between work and family, it said.
