A 47-year-man in Aichi Prefecture has been arrested for allegedly putting a dog collar around the neck of a former girlfriend and confining her for 38 hours before she managed to flee, police said.

Tadao Kubo was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of confining the 42-year-old woman at his home.

According to police, Kubo, from the city of Toyota, went to the ex-girlfriend's house in the town of Togo, Aichi Prefecture, and covered her mouth with adhesive tape at around 7 p.m. on Monday.

After tying her with a belt, he took her to his home by car and confined her until around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Kubo put a dog collar around her neck and kept her near his bed, police said.

The woman managed to escape while Kubo was out of the house. She was not injured, according to investigators.

Kubo has told police that he held a grudge against the woman, whom he had dated but broken up with around September.
