Police on Tuesday arrested three men for allegedly inflicting violence on riot police overseeing a citizen rally against proposed legislation on national security in front of the Diet building in Tokyo.

The men, who appear to be aged 45 to 50, have declined to identify themselves, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The department's Public Security Bureau suspect one of them is an activist from the mainstream faction of the Kakurokyo leftist group.

They are suspected of having shoved two officers to the ground in front of the Diet building at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and punching them. Their arrests were made on the charge of obstructing the officers' duties.
