A New York City plainclothes police officer who was shot in the head died on Monday and a first-degree murder charge will be sought against his accused killer, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said.

Officer Brian Moore, 25, was in an unmarked car pursuing Demetrius Blackwell when he was gunned down in a middle-class residential neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens, police said.

Blackwell, 35, who was wanted on a weapon charge, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
