The Phoenix Seagaia Resort complex in the city of Miyazaki has opened a restaurant that serves beef from Miyazaki Prefecture exclusively.

Beef Atelier Ushinomiya, situated in the large-scale resort complex, serves only one fixed course, costing ¥13,000, to six people per day to offer the local beef specialty.

Miyazaki beef has won the first prize twice in a row at the Japanese beef competition, which is only held once every five years.

The restaurant is the creation of TV show writer Kundo Koyama, who came up with the Kumamon bear mascot for nearby Kumamoto Prefecture. "I wanted to make a gourmet dream come true. I hope this restaurant helps bring visitors to Miyazaki," he said.

It takes 2½ hours to serve the 14-dish course, which offers a total of 180 grams of Miyazaki beef, including beef grilled on a hot plate and sukiyaki with tomatoes.

The eatery has only six counter seats. Reservations can be made one month in advance.
