Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday he has acquired a patent on a software system allowing foreigners to check food ingredients in their own language when ordering at restaurants.

The system, available on a tablet computer or the like, may help foreigners find out about food ingredients in their own language and request any changes to those they dislike.

"I have seen foreigners confused at restaurants," he said. "This will enhance their convenience."

Motegi devised the system before assuming the ministerial post a year ago, filed an application for the patent on Sept. 2 and acquired it on Nov. 29.

Motegi said that through his own experience, he felt that the patent system should be reformed to reduce burdens for patent applicants.
