"Cool Japan" selected Taiwan as its first foreign site to promote Japanese desserts and baked goods as part of the government's efforts to promote soft power overseas.

Taiwan independence advocate Alice King, a member of the seven-member "Cool Japan" promotion council, told Kyodo News in Taipei that the two-day event is aimed at introducing Japanese desserts and baked goods to Taiwan.

"Through these desserts and baked goods, we want to show the Taiwanese the high quality of Japanese foods and work ethics of the Japanese people," she said.
