Nine runners participating in a marathon in the town of Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture, were taken to the hospital on Sunday with apparent signs of heatstroke.
The organizer said eight of the nine sought help at first-aid stations along the course. The ninth was aided by a town official and taken to the hospital.
On Saturday, at least 311 people were hospitalized nationwide for apparent heatstroke.
