The Naha District Court sentenced a U.S. airman to one year in prison, suspended for three years, for intruding into an apartment, injuring a junior high school boy and destroying a TV set during a drunken spress last November in Okinawa.

Matthew Haist, 24, stationed at the U.S. Air Force's Kadena base, punched the boy in the face and broke the TV in the apartment, which he climbed into, in Yomitan shortly before 1 a.m. on Nov. 2, according to the court.

Presiding Judge Hideyuki Suzuki said Haist committed the crime after being thrown out of a bar by its owner for violating a nighttime curfew, adding that what he did was mean and vicious.

Haist's counsel should said he should just pay a fine since he was intoxicated to the point that he was mentally unable to intend any crime.
