Faced with tapped out markets at home, the United States and Europe, KDDI Corp. is weighing a foray into Myanmar's mobile phone market that would be part of an overseas push centered on mainland Asia, company officials said Saturday.

Working with Sumitomo Corp., the telecom carrier plans to build communications infrastructure in Myanmar, where only about 5 percent of the 62 million population use mobile phones, the officials said.

The company previously tried to break into Brazil, Paraguay and some other nations, but only its business in Mongolia remains intact.
