Sanyo Electric Co. of the Panasonic Corp. group said Tuesday it is recalling 46,646 dishwashers made between December 2000 and November 2001 due to concerns they could catch fire.

Sanyo is offering to buy them back for ¥30,000 per unit after fire-related accidents were reported in five prefectures. The accidents, in which no injuries were reported, have been attributed to faulty connections between wires and heaters.

Subject to the recall are the DW-S2000, DW-S2100 and DW-SJ2000 models sold under the Sanyo brand, the (4)115-1045 model sold under the Osaka Gas Co. brand and the SN-D503 model under the Tokyo Gas Co. brand.

Dishwashers for the recall can be identified with product serial numbers. The toll-free telephone number for inquiries is 0120-34-3581.
