Security company Secom Co. plans to buy a majority stake in At Tokyo Corp., a Tokyo Electric Power Co. subsidiary running multiple data centers, including one spread over 140,000 sq. meters, sources said Tuesday.

Secom, which has operated three data centers in Tokyo and one each in the prefectures of Tottori and Shimane, wants to enhance its data center business on the basis of the acquisition, the sources said.

The Tepco group of companies owns roughly 80 percent of At Tokyo, which annually posts sales of some ¥25 billion.

Secom's five data centers provide a combined 10,000 sq. meters in terms of floor space.

Although the company has been proceeding with a plan to expand the scale of its data centers by 50 percent, the acquisition of the majority stake in the Tepco subsidiary would bolster the overall scale of its centers more than tenfold, the sources said.
