The average retail price of regular gasoline in Japan stood at ¥143.80 per liter as of Monday, up ¥2.80 from a week earlier for the second straight weekly rise, as global crude oil prices increased amid the fighting in Syria, the Agency for National Resources and Energy said.

Mizuho Research Institute, which conducted the weekly gasoline survey, said Wednesday the price could increase further as the rise abroad is not yet fully reflected in domestic prices.
