Hitachi aims to boost Brazil sales

Hitachi Ltd. aims to quadruple sales in Brazil to ¥120 billion by the end of fiscal 2015 by investing ¥24 billion over the next three weeks, its president said.

“This country is in strong need of social infrastructure,” Hiroaki Nakanishi told a news conference Tuesday in Sao Paulo, where Hitachi held a business forum for banks and government officials.

Nakanishi said Hitachi plans to beef up its businesses in Brazil, such as in monorail, high-speed train and information technology, in addition to the air-conditioning business it has already invested in, ahead of the 2014 soccer World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics, both of which Brazil will host.
