A Japanese composition has won top prize in the orchestra category at a music competition organized by Wiener Konzerthaus concert hall in Austria, according to sources.

Shoichi Yabuta, 28, from Hyogo Prefecture, won the contest with his piece "Anima," which will premier at the renowned venue April 26. The composition contest was held to mark the concert hall's 100th anniversary.

Yabuta, who graduated from the Tokyo College of Music, was runnerup in the Music Competition of Japan three years in a row starting in 2009.
