A Chinese political advisor said Thursday the central government should deploy naval vessels while engaging in active diplomacy to solve its territorial dispute with Japan over a string of Japan-controlled islets in the East China Sea also claimed by China.

Lew Mon Hung, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, which advises Beijing on national issues, said Japan is taking advantage of China’s “weak” diplomatic stance on the uninhabited islets, which are called Diaoyu in China and Senkaku in Japan.
