U.S. President Barack Obama will meet Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on April 30 in Washington to discuss the bilateral security alliance as well as global and regional security concerns, the White House said Tuesday.
There has been no formal Washington summit between the two nations' leaders since the Democratic Party of Japan, now headed by Noda, swept to power in September 2009.
Noda is expected to be in the U.S. from April 29 to May 2, sources said.
Obama and Noda are likely to discuss cooperation in addressing North Korea's provocations, the ongoing realignment of U.S. forces in Japan and Tokyo's plan to join the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade talks.
The two leaders will also discuss deepening bilateral cooperation, the White House said in a statement.
