Amazon plans Gifu shipping center

Amazon Japan K.K. said its group firm Amazon Japan Logistics K.K. will open a large distribution center in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, later this year.

At a news conference Wednesday in Tajimi, Jeff Hayashida, president of Amazon Japan Logistics, emphasized the planned center’s strategic importance because it has good access to the Tomei and Chuo expressways linking the region with the Tokyo area.

The five-story center will have total floor space of around 80,000 sq. meters and will be used to deliver goods to customers on the day an order is placed, a service already available in the greater Tokyo and Osaka areas. It is expected to employ about 1,000 workers.
