Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda secretly met with Liberal Democratic Party chief Sadakazu Tanigaki last Saturday at a Tokyo hotel, and the two may have discussed dissolving the Lower House and calling a snap election, several sources said Thursday.

Noda and Tanigaki, who heads the largest opposition party, are believed to have discussed the government’s plan to hike the consumption tax and how the ruling and opposition camps should proceed over the issue, the sources said.
