Hollywood film director Ridley Scott will join a project initiated by Fuji TV to document a day in the life of Japan on the first anniversary of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Fuji TV is inviting people to shoot video for its "Japan in a Day" project.

"We want as many people as possible to keep March 11 in their hearts and for the footage to be a common asset of humankind," Fuji TV said as it announced the project Monday.

The film will be completed by autumn for release in Japan and then overseas.

Fuji TV approached the British director because of his experience working on "Life in Day," a documentary made from video clips submitted by people around the world, on which the upcoming project is based.

Scott's credits include "Alien," "Blade Runner," and "Gladiator." His brother and fellow film director, Tony Scott, will also take part.
