Former Olympus Corp. President and CEO Michael C. Woodford described the report by an independent panel probing the company's accounting scandal as helpful and more detailed than he expected.

"I'm appreciative of what the report's done, I think it's helpful, I think it's valuable and now we want the investigative process by those bodies in Japan . . . to make sure the investigation is thorough, complete and total," Woodford said Tuesday at a news conference, after the panel released its report the same day.

The Briton, ousted as Olympus chief in mid-October, also reiterated his call for the current board members to step down.
