A 43-year-old Japanese woman pleaded no contest Monday to a felony charge of concealing her 9-year-old daughter from the girl's father and agreed to return her to the United States, in a case involving child custody problems arising from a failed international marriage.

As part of the plea agreement reached at a court in Wisconsin, the child must be returned to her father in the United States within 30 days, said the woman's lawyer, Bridget Boyle-Saxton.

The final agreement is expected to be signed in court Tuesday. After that, the case will be held open for three years, after which the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor if the woman adheres to the court orders.
