Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies Co. has denied media reports about its alleged involvement in cyber-attacks and close ties with China's military.

"The allegations against Huawei, which include being the source of hacking operations and having close ties with the Chinese military, are completely unfounded," a spokesman for the company said in a statement Wednesday.

A top Taiwanese official in charge of information security had earlier alleged in an interview that Huawei, the world's second-largest provider of telecommunication equipment and related services, is a source of cyber-attacks originating in China.

Huawei is an employee-owned company and government-linked organizations don't hold any shares in it, the spokesman said, stressing the firm has been actively involved in global efforts to combat cybercrime.

"In China, like in many countries, all forms of cybercrime are against the law," he said. "But this issue has no borders and we believe that to overcome it, the cooperation of governments, international law enforcement agencies and the private sector is required."

Hacking "is a global issue that affects all of us" he said.
