Finance Minister Jun Azumi said he hopes to learn how the International Monetary Fund plans to address Europe’s sovereign debt crisis during his talks Saturday with the body’s chief.

“We are wondering what commitment the IMF is considering,” Azumi told reporters Friday, ahead of the talks with the fund’s managing director, Christine Lagarde, in Tokyo. “I also hope (Lagarde) will tell us what Europe is planning to do” to prevent the turmoil from spreading to the banking sector and major economies in the eurozone, he said.
