Astronaut Satoshi Furukawa will return to Earth on the morning of Nov. 22, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said Tuesday.

The return of the 47-year-old from the International Space Station was set by JAXA and NASA.

His return had been expected to be delayed until mid-December after Russia's Progress spacecraft failed to achieve orbit in August.

Furukawa is slated to land in Kazakhstan at 11:25 a.m. Japan time on a Soyuz spacecraft, according to JAXA.

He has stayed on the ISS for about five months since lifting off aboard a Soyuz capsule from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on June 8 and arriving at the space station two days later.
