Sony Corp. has partially restarted production at its plant in Tagajo, Miyagi Prefecture, making it the 10th and last factory to get back on its feet since the March 11 disasters, company officials said Monday.

The Tagajo plant restarted production of Blu-ray and other disk media, with production of magnetic tape expected to resume in late July, the officials said.

Meanwhile, the company plans to relocate production of optical components and electrodes for use in lithium-ion batteries to other factories in Miyagi and other prefectures, they said.

The consumer electronics giant is also expected to reduce the plant's workforce, which used to be 1,400 strong before the disaster.
