Yahoo Japan Corp. said Friday its group net profit in the business year that ended in March rose 10.4 percent from the previous year to \92.17 billion for the 14th straight yearly increase, on improved revenues from online advertising and its Internet shopping business.

The Internet portal company said it posted a 4.5 percent increase in sales to \292.42 billion, while its operating profit rose 11 percent to \159.60 billion.

The company estimated its sales have declined by around \2 billion due to the catastrophic March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

"The effect of the earthquake will be only short-term," as the domestic advertising market is recovering, said Masahiro Inoue, president of Yahoo Japan.
