UTSUNOMIYA, Tochigi Pref. (Kyodo) An ambulance and a car collided in the town of Nogi on Sunday morning while the ambulance was trying to deliver a patient to a hospital, local police said.

The driver of the car was slightly injured.

According to the police, the collision occurred when a car driven by 21-year-old university student Mari Takahashi of Koga was about to make a right turn to enter a gasoline station on the other side of the road when the ambulance, its siren blaring, apparently tried to pass her on the right, police said.

Takahashi's arm was injured in the collision, they said.

Soon afterward, another ambulance arrived at the scene to take the patient in the first ambulance, a man in his 60s, to Jichi Medical University Hospital in Shimotsuke.

Neither the man nor his family, also in the ambulance, were injured in the accident, they said.
