FUKUOKA (Kyodo) A nonprofit group will operate a beauty salon Monday in the city of Fukuoka to raise money for its medical support activities in Chernobyl, the Ukrainian town hit by a disastrous nuclear accident in 1986.
The Chernobyl Medical Support Network, based in Koga, Fukuoka Prefecture, is aiming to draw at least 130 customers for ¥1,500 haircuts by some 60 beauty salon employees.
At the salon, the group will also exhibit panels on Chernobyl to raise awareness about the accident, which took place when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union.
