ISTANBUL (Kyodo) Major publisher Shueisha Inc. has kicked off a major manga exhibition at a contemporary art museum in Istanbul to promote Japanese comic books.

Shueisha's first overseas manga exhibition, "Discover Manga! The World of Shonen Jump," will run through Oct. 17 at the Istanbul Modern Art Museum.

Original drawings of popular series such as "ONE PIECE" and "Dragon Ball" carried in the weekly Shonen Jump magazine are on display, while video presentations show how manga artists create their works.

The show is an official part of Japan Year 2010 in Turkey, a campaign promoting bilateral ties.

While Japanese cartoons are aired on Turkish television, no manga are published there. "We hope people around the world will read Shonen Jump," said Hisashi Sasaki, chief editor of the weekly.
