Former Vice Foreign Minister Hitoshi Tanaka will become chairman of a think tank to be launched this week by the Japan Research Institute.
The new Institute for International Strategy will rely on Tanaka’s ability as a communicator with a broad political and diplomatic perspective, as well as on the contacts he cultivated as a diplomat, officials at the Japan Research Institute said Monday.
The new institute will formulate policy recommendations on Japan’s overseas strategy.
