Malaysia's Air Asia plans to inaugurate flights linking Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo's Haneda airport later this year, becoming the first low-cost overseas carrier to serve the airport that will open for expanded international flights in late October, industry sources said Tuesday.

Air Asia is expected to price fares for its thrice-weekly flights far lower than those of existing services offered by Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.

Both airlines currently fly between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Narita International Airport.
