Tokyo and its neighboring areas experienced intense heat Monday, with temperatures topping 38 in some places, the Meteorological Agency said.
The mercury rose to 35 or higher in 132 locations across the nation, and 676 locations saw temperatures of 30 or more, the agency said.
Temperatures of 38.2 were recorded in both Tatebayashi and Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, while the mercury hit 38.1 in Nerima Ward, Tokyo, and Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture.
