NAGOYA (Kyodo) Tokaido Shinkansen Line trains bound for Shin-Osaka from Tokyo were briefly halted Monday morning after smoke was seen coming from a switch panel on one of the trains.

The incident caused delays of up to 32 minutes for 12 trains, affecting some 11,000 passengers, according to Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai).

The incident occurred on a Nozomi 155 train at around 10:40 a.m. between Gifu-Hashima and Maibara stations. JR Tokai is investigating the cause of the possible fire.

The train was halted after a crew member found smoke coming from a power switchboard and activated an emergency alarm.
