OSAKA (Kyodo) Sanyo Electric Co. plans to sell its semiconductor and micromotor businesses in a second wave of restructuring since coming under the wing of Panasonic Corp. in December, sources said Monday.

Sanyo Electric will sell Sanyo Semiconductor Co. in Oizumi, Gunma Prefecture, and Sanyo Seimitsu Co. in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, according to the sources, who asked not to be identified before the subsidiary makes a formal decision on the sale.

Sanyo has already decided to sell its distribution unit Sanyo Electric Logistics Co. to promote restructuring as a member of the Panasonic group.

The sources said Sanyo intends to sell the semiconductor subsidiary because it is unlikely to generate large synergistic effects with Panasonic's chip business.

Although Sanyo Seimitsu is a leader in the global market for vibration motors used in mobile phones, its future growth appears uncertain in the face of falling prices, they added.
