WASHINGTON (Kyodo) U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday told Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba that he wants to visit the city.

"I would like to come," Akiba quoted Obama as saying in response to his request that the president visit. However, Obama did not refer to the timing of his possible visit, according to Akiba, who was at the White House for a U.S. conference of mayors.

Obama expressed his willingness to travel to Hiroshima and Nagasaki during his trip to Tokyo last November as part of his Asia swing.
