The governors of 22 of the 47 prefectures are opposed to cuts in public works expenditures in the government's budget for fiscal 2010 starting in April, a poll showed Sunday.

None of the governors supported the cuts in the fiscal 2010 state budget, which amounted to an 18.3 percent reduction from the initial budget in 2009, the poll said.

The governors opposed the cuts due to concern over the impact they might have on local economies and potential delays in building infrastructure, the poll showed.

Meanwhile, 41 governors support the ¥1.1 trillion increase in the tax allocations to municipalities in the fiscal 2010 budget.
