The government plans to add three vice ministers and 12 parliamentary secretaries to the governmental framework through legislation during the upcoming Diet session to strengthen Cabinet operations and politicians' leadership.

Ruling bloc lawmakers say the legislation, coupled with a plan to upgrade the new National Policy Unit from an office to a bureau, will strengthen the functions of the prime minister's office both in staff numbers and quality.

Under the plan, 11 of the 15 new posts will be in either the Cabinet Office or the Cabinet Secretariat, both of which assist the prime minister.
