Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Tuesday that Japan should adhere to its policy of banning arms exports, saying Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa’s remarks earlier in the day suggesting it was time to review the policy were careless.
“Japan has declared to the world that it is a peaceful nation, and one of its promises is to stick to (the policy),” he said. “Under the current circumstances, the ban is something that must be maintained.”
