The infrastructure ministry is close to finalizing a plan to freeze projects aimed at improving port facilities nationwide as part of a drive to reduce wasteful spending, sources said Wednesday.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is expected to start suspending such projects in fiscal 2011 at roughly half of the 103 ports designated by the government as playing complementary roles for the nation’s top-tier 23 ports, they said.
