Prince Hisahito, the 3-year-old son of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, will enter the kindergarten affiliated with Ochanomizu University in Tokyo next April, the Imperial Household Agency announced Thursday.
While many Imperial family members have been part of the two-year program at Gakushuin Kindergarten, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko have decided to send their son to Ochanomizu in the hope its three-year program will provide more opportunities to interact with other children his age, according to the agency.
The young prince was accepted as part of a special admissions quota designed last year to support female researchers.
