Social Democratic Party leader Mizuho Fukushima, who is also consumer affairs minister in Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama’s Cabinet, said Wednesday she will seek re-election as party leader.
Although it was widely believed Fukushima would be installed for a fourth term without a vote, there appear to be moves within the party to field an alternative candidate. If anyone surfaces to challenge her, a vote would be held on Dec. 19 and 20 and ballot counting would take place Dec. 21.
