Industrial output in August expanded a seasonally adjusted 1.6 percent from the previous month instead of 1.8 percent, the government said Thursday, revising its preliminary report to account for falls in plastic and medical products.

The index of production at mines and factories came to 83.9 against the base of 100 for 2005, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said. It still rose for the sixth consecutive month on robustness in the steel, high-tech and auto industries.

The index of industrial shipments rose a revised 0.6 percent to 84.2 instead of 1.0 percent in the preliminary report released Sept. 30.

The index of inventories, however, was up 0.1 percent to 95.1. The ministry previously said it was flat.
