KOBE (Kyodo) Two Ugandans whose parents died from complications related to AIDS passed an entrance exam for foreign students Thursday at Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture.

When they found their numbers displayed on a board at the university, Ssegujja Julius, 21, who lost both his parents, and Nabanoba Irene, 20, who lost her father, burst into tears and started dancing to express their joy.

"I have been longing for this result to come out," Julius said. He has survived by washing laundry and doing other chores since he was 13 and was at times unable to attend school as he could not pay tuition.

"It is the greatest moment of my life," Irene said.

The two arrived in Japan with the support of Uganda Rainbow House, an organization established by Japan's Ashinaga, a nonprofit group that provides scholarship support for orphans.
