OSAKA (Kyodo) Murata Manufacturing Co. has unveiled the latest version of its one-wheeled robot Murata Seiko Chan, with the 50-cm-tall robot successfully running along a raised 1.5-meter-long beam only 2 cm in width.

Standing on its lone wheel, the robot can remain stationary, go back and forth and move along a curve by using built-in gyro sensors.

By processing images captured with a camera on the lower part of its body, the robot can control its moves more precisely than previous versions, the Kyoto-based company said Saturday.

The robot is modeled on the image of a kindergarten girl.
