NAGOYA (Kyodo) A Pakistani man on a police wanted list was arrested Friday for allegedly attempting to ship acetic anhydride, a chemical used to synthesize heroin, to Afghanistan without customs permission.

Muhammad Shabraz, a 33-year-old employee of a car exporter, was arrested by the Aichi Prefectural Police at Narita airport when he tried to re-enter the country.

He is charged with trying to ship about 1.4 tons of acetic anhydride from Nagoya port in February in violation of the customs law. He left Japan on Feb. 23, shortly before the substance, hidden in freight containers, was discovered at the port.
