Toshiba Home Appliances Corp. said Tuesday it will check 82,985 washer-dryers free of charge after one caught on fire.

The drum-type units, the TW-853EX, TW-853V6 and nine other models, were manufactured between November 2001 and May 2007 and include those produced for retailer Ryohin Keikaku Co. and the Japanese unit of General Electric Co. under their brands, Toshiba Home Appliances said.

One of the machines caught fire in Kyoto in June, possibly because the insulator of a lead wire was damaged by liquid detergent, the Toshiba Corp. affiliate said, adding that no injuries have been reported.
