OSAKA (Kyodo) A Chinese woman accused of killing her Japanese husband and two other men in a scheme to inherit her husband's assets pleaded not guilty Monday in the Osaka District Court.

"I'm innocent," Yin Lina, 53, said as her trial got under way, denying charges that she murdered Zenichiro Kato, 77, at their home in the city of Osaka around October 2001, to illegally obtain his assets.

She is also accused of killing two men, aged 69 and 71, between around December 2001 and around February 2002 to substitute their bodies for Kato's, the indictment says.

Although Kato's body has not been found, prosecutors said they will establish he was murdered "by putting pieces of the puzzle together."
