An Argentine university student has won the Global Student Poster Competition for raising public awareness of climate change, its organizers said.

The contest is supported by the United Nations, Dentsu Inc. and the International Advertising Association in New York.

During the award ceremony at U.N. headquarters in New York on Wednesday, Kiyo Akasaka, undersecretary general of the U.N. Department of Public Information, presented the top prize to Matias Fernandez Garcia, of the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa, Buenos Aires.

The contest attracted 145 entries from 13 countries. Five regional winners and three top prizes were selected.

The second prize went to Cheng Yolanda Ji, a student at Hong Kong Baptist University, while third place went to Vanja Sibalic, a student at University of Arts, Belgrade, in Serbia and Montenegro.

Yuki Nakamura, a student at Kanazawa College of Art, was named the winner of the Asia-Pacific region.
