OSAKA (Kyodo) Panasonic Corp. said Wednesday it has started selling in North America 42-inch liquid crystal display televisions, its largest models, to boost sales by increasing its product line.

The consumer electronics giant developed the 42-inch LCD TVs for home electronics appliance retailers in North America and began selling them in May.

Until the launch, Panasonic, the world's leading maker of plasma display TVs, had marketed 37-inch or smaller LCD TV models, except in some overseas markets where it sold larger models, the company said.

The maker plans to expand its flat-screen TV sales to about 15.5 million units in fiscal 2009, roughly 1.5 times more than the previous year.
